CLEAT Entry
forms 2
Dear artist,
Thank you for expressing an interest in participation in
the 2010 Chautauqua-Lake Erie Art Trail (CLEAT) Open Studio
Tour 2 presented by North Shore Arts Alliance. The primary
goal of the CLEAT tour is to create and to publicize a
coherent marketable identity for the artists of Northern
Chautauqua County.
The CLEAT studio tour provides visual artists with an
excellent opportunity to exhibit their works to new
collectors in a unique, personal setting. Art trails
are strong community and relationship building events,
which is important in a mostly rural area like Chautauqua
County where it is often difficult to network and to meet
potential new customers. Our first annual open studio tour
proved to be a moneymaking endeavor.
Chautauqua County’s second annual CLEAT tour will take
place Memorial Day weekend, May 29th and 30th, 2010. Each artist’s studio on
the CLEAT tour will be open to the public concurrently to
allow for ease of visitation from 10AM to 5PM Saturday and
Sunday.
Marketing for the CLEAT 2010 tour will include a
professionally designed brochure, a dedicated website with
artist and event information, public service announcements
on regional radio stations, and press releases in area
magazines and newspapers. The CLEAT brochure will contain
directions to participating artists’ studios and will
highlight brief artist biographies and images of the
artist’s work. These pamphlets and other announcements will
be made available to the public at area businesses,
sponsors, B&B's, information racks, wineries, and art
galleries. The website that will include up-to-date
information about CLEAT events, a downloadable map of the
trail with Map Quest links, and information about the
sponsors. In addition, each artist will have a page with an
artist’s statement, four images, contact information, and a
link to her/his own website.
The CLEAT tour is largely funded by grants. We will be
applying for a County Bed Tax Money Grant, a Key Bank
Grant, and several other potential granting opportunities
(NCCF, NSYCA Dec Grant). Numerous regional businesses that
are committed to the growth of Chautauqua County’s art
scene and artist’s dues also make the tour possible. The
artists’ dues will provide supplementary funds and will
cost $150 for artists who wish to help with some of the
tasks of the Tour, and $225 for all others. Tasks will
include placing brochures in the community and signs for
the art trail weekend, assisting with mailings, promoting
the art trail at outside events and providing refreshments
for selected events. Fees collected from all artists
will assure the artist’s inclusion in this [$10,000]
marketing campaign to promote Chautauqua County’s fine art.
Participation in the CLEAT open studio tour is limited to
selected fine artists in the northern Chautauqua County
area. Each artist must have the following: a TAX ID number,
a short demonstration or representative display of
work in progress for studio visitors, the appropriate
studio space, and the ability to participate for the full
duration of the tour. In addition, there will be one
required CLEAT open studio tour artists’ meeting. The
date and time of the meeting will be announced.
We are happy that you have expressed an interest in our
second annual Chautauqua-Lake Erie Art Trail Open Studio
Tour. The CLEAT tour is a key step in creating and
marketing a recognizable collective identity for the
artists of Northern Chautauqua County. If you have any
questions regarding this event, please feel free to contact
any of the members of the CLEAT open studio tour steering
committee. We would need to have your application by
Wednesday, July 1st, for the jurying process. You
will know the results of the jurying by July
15th.
Sincerely,
