All wine starts with grapes and all grapes start with "terroir" or the dirt and climate in which the grapes are grown.  The Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail, located in the largest grape growing region east of the Rockies now known as America's Grape Country, extends roughly 40 miles from Silver Creek, NY to North East, PA.  The region's 30,000 acres of vineyards, situated along the shores of Lake Erie, create unparalleled vistas of our agricultural heritage.  The area is currently home to 21 wineries which produce an abundant and diverse line of wines; including viniferas (Merlot, Chardonnay), French hybrids (Vidal Blanc, Seyval Blanc), and labruscan wines (Concord and Niagara).  As testimony to this German-like climate, wineries produce world-class ice wines and Rieslings.
