When considering my artwork one should keep in mind my thirty-two years of teaching high school art. I focused on technique in my teaching and I feel my artwork is primarily about applying those techniques. Capturing detail with subtle blending is my goal and it’s what gets me excited when it works. Oils are not only my preferred medium, they are essential to my technique. I paint wet on wet, with tonal changes created on the canvas.
The blending can not happen to my satisfaction without the perfect degree of liquidity in the paint. Oil paint maintains the liquidity I need.
